I can also tutor HIGH SCHOOL and MIDDLE SCHOOL students in the social sciences and humanities. I have developed proven strategies to improve their writing, reading comprehension, and test taking skills, and can tutor them on how to score well on the ACT, SAT (English/verbal section), and other standardized tests. I love teaching, tutoring, and mentoring students for many different reasons. I wouldn't be an educator if I did not love what I do! I fully understand the values of tutoring to help students succeed in school and well beyond. Tutors play a key role in the learning and lives of students, and in enriching their experiences with the educational process. It brings me great joy and a sense of personal fulfillment and accomplishment to help students achieve their full potential in school and in life, to help develop their character, and to impact them in tangible, positive ways. As a tutor, I seek to forge a meaningful path and fulfilling relationships based on shared goals, to incorporate the student's interests, strengths, and creativity, to stay attuned to their self-image, and to disseminate vital knowledge that enriches their life experiences and enhances their awareness of the world. These and many other are good reasons to become a tutor. I firmly believe that ALL students have the ability to succeed academically and in life, and I make this message clear to them. I tell them on a regular basis that I believe in them, that I will not give up on them, and that they can do whatever they set their minds to. My dedication to and love of education, my perseverance, patience, and positive outlook serves to motivate students to apply themselves, maintain a positive attitude, and never give up. Students need to know that someone believes in their potential who is willing to take the time to help draw out this potential. Everything I do is directed to helping students achieve their full academic potential. During my 10 years of teaching at the university level, I consistently received EXCELLENT evaluations from students for being an exceptional teacher, mentor/adviser, and tutor. STUDENT EVALUATIONS & TESTIMONIALS available upon request. I also provide professional EDITING, PROOFREADING, and RESEARCH services to students who need help with their papers & class assignments. Hobbies

I'm a prolific reader. I love reading about world, ancient, and U.S. history. I particularly love British history and culture. As an exchange student years ago at Nottingham Trent University, England, I learned about British history and culture firsthand from British scholars and took my first introductory Italian class. I really enjoy reading creative non-fiction works and American classics like The Great Gatsby, Of Mice and Men, The Grapes of Wrath, To Kill A Mockingbird, and other phenomenal works. I love learning new languages and hope to be multi-lingual one day. I plan to re-take French lessons this year (I took 3 years of French in high school & a 6 week refresher course last year). I also hope to become proficient in Italian and Spanish. I'm also a big news junkie. I cannot get enough news and information about politics, policy making, and government. I love watching C-SPAN and CNN. As a political scientist, I enjoy exploring and understanding policy making processes, and how political systems function. I'm also a prolific writer. My proudest accomplishment is writing a 600 plus page doctoral dissertation and publishing articles derived from my thesis. I have several academic-oriented publications that have really helped me hone my writing, reading comprehension, and research skills over the years. My non-academic hobbies when I have time to partake in them include hiking in the woods; long walks by the ocean; dining out; cruises; traveling locally and to other countries to immerse myself in different cultures; theater; science and art museums; watching documentaries, comedies, and dramas; among other fun things to do in my spare time.
